Level 1 Cleaning Sciences – Infection Control

Program Overview

The Infection Control certificate provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to prevent and control the spread of infections in facilities. Students will learn about the different types of infections, how they are transmitted, and how to prevent them. They will also learn about cleaning and disinfection procedures, personal protective equipment, and waste management. In addition, students will learn how to apply infection control principles in specific environments, such as healthcare facilities, schools, and businesses.
    Module 1: Introduction to Infection Control
  • Define infection control and explain its importance.
  • Identify the different types of infections and their transmission routes.
  • Understand the basic principles of infection control.
  • Apply infection control principles to real-world scenarios.
    Module 2: Types of Infections
  • Identify and describe the different types of infections, including bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections.
  • Understand the different transmission routes for each type of infection.
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of common infections.
  • Apply your knowledge of infections to prevent their transmission and spread.
    Module 3: Transmission of Infections
  • Explain the different ways that infections can be transmitted, including direct contact, indirect contact, airborne transmission, and vehicle-borne transmission.
  • Identify the factors that increase the risk of infection transmission.
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent the transmission of infections.
  • Apply your knowledge of infection transmission to protect yourself and others from infection.
    Module 4: Prevention of Infections
  • Identify and implement the different methods of infection prevention, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), environmental cleaning and disinfection, and vaccination.
  • Apply infection prevention principles to real-world scenarios.
    Module 5: Cleaning and Disinfection
  • Understand the different types of cleaning and disinfection products and their uses.
  • Select and use the appropriate cleaning and disinfection products and procedures for different types of surfaces and equipment.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection procedures.
  • Apply cleaning and disinfection principles to prevent the spread of infections.
    Module 6: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Identify and select the appropriate PPE for different infection control tasks.
  • Use PPE safely and effectively.
  • Maintain and dispose of PPE properly.
  • Apply PPE principles to protect yourself and others from infection.
    Module 7: Waste Management
  • Identify and classify different types of waste, including infectious waste.
  • Handle and dispose of infectious waste safely and in compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and implement waste management plans for different healthcare settings.
  • Apply waste management principles to prevent the spread of infections.
    Module 8: Infection Control in Specific Environments
  • Apply infection control principles to specific healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, dental offices, and nursing homes.
  • Identify and address the unique infection control challenges of different healthcare settings.
  • Develop and implement infection control plans for specific healthcare settings.
